Steve asks…
I would build mine out of bamboo. I would have shatterproof windows with soybean film over them. I might make a few things out of spider silk as it’s very strong. Inside the walls, I would have eggshell cartons to make them soundproof. On top of that, I would add leaves, hay, recycled clothing, bottles, and cans for insulation. I would have a solar panel, a rainwater collecting cistern, and helical wind turbine on top of my green roof (which would consist of an organic garden.) My self-sustaining house would also have a septic tank and an intern to recycle all my black water into gray water to nourish the exterior vegetation. What would your dream house be built out of?
Sorry! I meant to say “incubator” instead of “intern.” I was thinking of cisterns, and that’s how I got confused.
I guess I am living in my dream home. My house was built in 1897. All of the foundation and support is redwood. The shingles on the outside are also redwood and have never been replaced. Termites will not touch the old redwood so I never have to worry about termites. The old redwood is too hard to burn also. My house is as sturdy as a rock.

Obama said the stimulus money has “saved or created nearly 150,000 jobs,” he said, including “jobs building solar panels and wind turbines; making homes and buildings more energy-efficient.”
Oh sure, you would think that with all the money we spent and the projected 1.4 trillion budget we would have created a lot more jobs but no just 150,000 (which like he said most of it is probably saved jobs not new ones)
Now on with the BS … solar panels and wind turbines for efficient homes huh lol get ready to add an extra 20K to that mortgage … oh sure you will save on electric and heating bill … but you have all 30 years to cover that extra 20K with your savings.
I don’t hate alternative energy i hate the way it is being misused for political gain.
Hey Zaphod i must have hit a sensitive nerve for you to be so nasty in your response. When Obama spoke of teh stimulus money it was ESSENTIALLY to promote job creation … so you do the math (if you can count) and tell me even if you used a third of it for jobs thats 200B you tell me how many jobs YOU would create with even half of that.
Why does anybody who does not side with Obama is automatically labeled a conservative or a republican? is it because your democrats liberals cannot be too far from the mother liberal tit?
I am a proud independent that does not let any party influence my judgment. I make my own, vote my own and usually make good decisions because … i am not following a mind set or an ideal but the best for my country.

What is more interesting is that these “green collar jobs” are only temporary.
Which means, another unemployment bubble has been created, hopefully, it will be filled with substance before it pops.

Graham asks…
I am wanting to build a home in the mountains and would like to know if anyone has solar panels that can give me info on how well it provides energy to their home <pros and cons. also would like to know approx cost to put energy to a 1600-2000 sf home. thank you in advance for your time
I have a 2000sf multi level home and just added a solar array. I live in an area with great rebates so my utility paid $10K while I paid $16K. My home was not built to be energy efficient, so if you are building from scratch you can make a home that will use less energy.
I can’t think of any con, because I’m still tied to the grid, so I have a back up system. I also didn’t try to zero out my bill. My bill this summer was $20, but will be a little higher in the winter months because of fewer hours of daylight. If you are planning on being off the grid you will need to have a battery back up system which has additional costs, but you may also be able to add wind to supplement.
I think the best way to get a realistic idea of what you will need is to get a licensed contractor to go to the site and tell you what they recommend and give you a bid. Your lifestyle and how you build your home will dictate what size system will work for you.

www.solarpanelsquick.com – There are some differences between solar power kits and solar panel kits. Some companies like to try to say that they have solar power kits, but in some cases, these are just kits to help you build solar panels. A complete kit should have all the components needed to install and utilize solar power. This means the panels, the battery back up and storage. It also needs to have all the voltage regulators, surge protection, inverters to change low voltage energy to high voltage electricity, and all the wiring and hardware. Complete solar power kits may be a little more expensive, but it is worth this extra money. This is because of trying to search around online for all of these components, which can take some time, everything is provided. This doesn’t mean you can’t still utilize a panel kit, but at the very least it needs to include the panels and basic wiring components. It should also include a list of available providers for these other parts. Many people use the power of the internet to buy solar power kits. This is a great way to find what you are looking for, because there are many different DIY websites out there. The biggest problems with some of these is that they don’t provide all the information you need, and can charge outrageous prices. After reviewing a number of different websites, one of the most complete sites available it earth4energy.com. Even if you don’t use this site, it is a good idea to check it out to see what kind of …

These are two prototypes of small solar generators, one portable and one fixed. The solar panels are courtesy of Harbor Freight and costs less than 0. The portable unit was built on a convertable two wheeler. The fixed unit is a Rubbermaid deck box. Both are single battery units, which are only useful for small applications. If the power goes out, you could have basic lighting, as the HF kit comes with two 12 volt, 5 watt fluorecent bulbs. You can charge cell phones, lap tops and do other things that would make your life a little better during a power outage. The best thing about these units is that they require no fuel, just the sun. I’ve been building much larger units that can run a refrigerator. It’s important to know that a modified sin-wave inverter can do light work, but if you want to run a large motor, or refrigerator, then you need a true sin-wave inverter.

DESKRIPSI : www.BetterGuideYouNeed.com Benefits of Solar Panels The Benefits of Using Solar Panels There are many benefits to using solar panels. One of the main benefits to using these panels is that you will be able to successfully produce electricity for your home in a method that is much easier and much less expensive. Solar panels provide a source of power that is natural and not created. These panels utilize the rays of the sun in order to generate electricity. This means that you will save money on your electrical costs and that you will not be subjected to the pollution caused by electricity when it is produced by typical means. Many people’s find themselves wondering if solar power will be effective if it rains, or there is cloud coverage. The wonderful news is that today’s solar panels have the capacity to store a large amount of energy that may be used in the future – even if it is dark outside! Incorporating solar panels into your home will officially allow you to disconnect from the “grid”. This is also considered to be an environmentally friendly means of acquiring the power that is required for your home. www.ebookdotcom.com — HOW TO MAKE A SOLAR PANEL | How To Make A Solar Panel Tips | How To Make A Solar Panel Guide! If you’d like to make your own improvised homemade solar cell out of things you can find around the house and in a hardware store, this is how you can do it. 1.Wash your hands and the copper sheet in soap water to remove impurities. Use sandpaper to remove imperfections in the copper. 2.Place the copper sheet on the electric stove and kick it up to its highest temperature. You should see the sheet change colors. The colors should eventually disappear as black CuO (copper III oxide) forms on the sheet. The CuO will eventually fall off. Leave the copper on the stove for half an hour and let the black coating get good and thick so it falls off easier. 3.Leave it to cool after half an hour, and as it cools, the black stuff will flake off. It can get messy because the black layer flakes off with considerable force but won’t damage anything, it just causes a mess. Leave for about 15 minutes so it can get to room temp. You can scrub off the rest of the black CuO with running water and your hands, but avoid hard scrubbing or bending the copper. 4.Then cut out another piece of copper the same size as the other one. Using the alligator clips, hold the pieces of copper inside the clear bottle across from each other, bending them so that they fit the curvature of the bottle. The top of the copper pieces should be flush with the top of the bottle. Then fill the bottle …
